About this deal

The rgb on the keyboard looks very good as well and It's going to be awesome when I get around to putting the Razer Phantom keycaps or some other brand of pudding key caps. Getting adjusted to a larger tenkeyless board after using a 75% layout for a few months was effortless. People tend to forget that 75 percent keyboards are basically tenkeyless boards, just more compact and shorter by a few keys. The clips are made of plastic, but they are really tight, which concerns me if you get this keyboard and plan on using different keycaps, because these clips are tiny and look brittle. I’m not expecting well-tuned stabilizers on a keyboard like this, but because Razer has made recent strides forward in its designs with additions like sound dampening foam, adding just a tiny bit of lube on the stabilizers would benefit the board immensely and keep up with that pattern. But in actual use, including both gaming and typing, we didn’t feel like we saw inputs occuring on screen faster than when using a 1,000 Hz keyboard. There wasn’t even a massive difference when typing with the polling rate set to 125 Hz, although. things did seem to catch up negligibly slower.

Razer markets the optical switches as being faster, touting all sorts of wondrous terms such as “the speed of light” and “the fastest performance you’ll ever experience,” but I couldn’t care less about those things. Sure, in a scientific test, they might outperform classic electric mechanical switches because they don’t have to account for debounce, but if you find me one person who can tell the difference in speed in a blind test, I’ll buy you a beer. Maybe two. Niels Broekhuijsen/Digital Trends Razer’s Synapse software does a lot of things, like letting you adjust the per-key RGB, rebind keys and record macros. I don’t dabble with rebinding keys on keyboards above 65 percent, so there was no need here, but that feature is there if you want it. There’s also a feature within Synapse called Visualizer, which lights up the board to the beat of whatever audio is coming out of your speakers. It’s not going to help your gaming, but it’s a lot of fun to mess with. Meanwhile, Corsair carries the K70 RGB TKL Champion Series, which does have media keys and also does 8K polling, but like Logitech’s board, doesn’t have the same comfortable switches. The wrist rest, again, is missing. How long will it last? Unlike the previous-generation Huntsman, Razer now includes a wrist rest that is composed of faux leather, foam and plastic. The braided fiber cable is also there, all the way to the left side, (making it easier to snake behind your best gaming monitor stealthily than the centrally located cable in the Huntsman Elite). And while there’s no USB passthrough port or RGB wrist rest, the wrist rest has been updated from the Huntsman Elite. There’s no longer a plastic bezel going. Instead, it’s plush from edge to edge.Razer’s Huntsman V2 Tenkeyless is a simple but well-executed TKL keyboard for PC gamers. It isn’t wireless, which isn’t possible with optical switches (not without very limited battery life). It also doesn’t have media keys, and I have a few issues with the included wrist rest. On the 10fastfingers.com typing test, I averaged 119.5 words per minute (WPM) and 94.98% accuracy. That’s 1.5 WPM faster than my usual speed and about 3% less accurate. I thought I might have a greater speed boost, because the keys are so easy to actuate, but I think trepidation about accidentally mispressing slowed me down. You’ll also want to look at both wired and wireless connections. Wireless models are often more expensive than their wired siblings. Some cheap wireless keyboards might suffer input lag, but reliable products from big names like Logitech and SteelSeries are typically fine for all but pro gamers. One of Razer’s greatest advantages is its peripherals’ long feature lists. The Huntsman V2 isn’t so expensive just because of its optical switches. It also has a lot of gaming functionality, like on-the-fly and software macro recording and programmable keys. With Razer’s Synapse software, keybindings can automatically launch with a specific game or other app, and you can program every key to have another function when right FN is pressed simultaneously.

The camera shifts down to a full shot of the Razer Huntsman V2 Tenkeyless keyboard, which has a noticeably more compact form factor, but also has Razer Chroma RGB lighting and an ergonomic wrist rest.

In this case, aside from the sound-dampening foam, there’s a PCB that supports Razer’s HyperPolling technology, which allows for a polling rate of 8,000 Hz. If you’re a Razer fiend, this would pair well with the Viper 8K Hz mouse, which we liked in our review but not solely because of its high polling rate.
