About this deal

This aside, we both had a fantastic time playing Detective and having completed most of the cases, we are definitely looking forward to the new ones that are due to be released soon! Detective Conclusion Enter, Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game – Season one. A game definitely aiming to win the award for 2020's longest game title award.

One final important note is that you will not be able to follow every lead card for a case, and you will not get a perfect score at the end of each case. Most cases require overtime to solve, and this reduces your final score. Detective. It’s a title that delivers a simple promise. But Ignacy Trzewiczek’s ambitious and revolutionary creation overdelivers on its modest proposal in almost every regard, leaving one conclusion: this is nothing less than a modern crime-gaming masterpiece. Take the job of a real detective in a modern setting! Solve mysterious crimes working as an Antares National Investigation Agency team member. The game cleverly does not tell you the answers to the questions until you tell it to, which means you can restart a case without huge spoilers. But of course, it will be easier the second time around. Also, on the Lead cards, you may find evidence such as fingerprints, DNA, or trace material such as soil samples. The Lead card will show which it is along with a signature code. Again, you will log in to the Antares database, go to the Signatures section, and choose the type of evidence you’ve collected.

Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game

In Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game you are going to solve FIVE different cases and find out what connects them, you are going to BREAK THE 4th WALL by using every resource you can, you are going to browse the game's DEDICATED DATABASE simulating your agency's resources, you will enter a city maze of old mysteries and fresh CRIME, and you will be able to COOPERATE with other agents or solve the mystery on your own. For every hour past 4 pm, you will need to remove one stress token from your pool. If you have 0 stress tokens left, you must submit your final report. The key to the game is to manage your stress. You don’t run out of tokens before the last day of the investigation. As I said in the intro, while I really enjoyed the original Detective, there were some things I didn’t love about it. One was the length. Some cases took 3-4 hours which was just too long for me. It turned it into a game you had to plan your night around, rather than one to pull off the shelf and play. The other issue was that the mechanics sometimes got in the way of the game. Having to deal with authority tokens, stress tokens, and specific skill tokens to manage felt kind of unnecessary and took away from the best part of the game, lead discovery and deduction. The game uses an online database for you to log evidence and look things up. Detective: Season One is a new product in the award-winning Detective line, one with a shorter playing time that’s tailored for a mystery game night with simpler family-friendly rules. The game consists of three standalone cases, and each of them can be played in around 90 minutes. Each of the cases challenges players with different settings and styles. The cases are:

Different from the original is that players will have one day to solve the crime presented by the case. They do this by choosing a lead card to investigate each round. This will involve spending some time, the game’s main resource. Each lead will take anywhere from 1-3 hours of your day. The card will then give you information in the form of an interview with a suspect or witness, examining a location, or other forms of police work. Occasionally a card will let you “dig deeper” by spending a skill token. This lets you flip over the card for extra information that may or may not be relevant to your investigation.Using an innovative online web-portal, players will join the Antares National Investigation Agency and work to piece together evidence and information gathered from crime scenes, items and persons of interest. The web app will allow you to match fingerprints, follow leads and clue yourself up on interviews with victims and suspects. It is also actively encouraged and almost vital that notes are made throughout, as information and evidence will come from all sides and it is up to you to filter it and ensure you are following the most constructive leads!

Enter, Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game – Season one. A game definitely aiming to win the award for 2020’s longest game title award.Once per day at any location, you may write a report to gain one Authority token as a team. Authority Tokens Despite its quirks, Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game is one of my favorite investigative games. I really liked the modern aspect of it and using an actual computer database was a ton of fun. The game even went on to win two of our 2018 Board Game Awards. Yet despite its accolades, there were a few things I wasn’t thrilled about in the game. Detective went a bit overboard on the mechanical nature of the game and sometimes the writing got overly verbose. For the game play mechanics, each lead you want to investigate will cost you time, usually ranging from 1-3 hours. Once the end of the work day hits (8am-4pm), any further actions will cost you overtime, which gives players stress markers. Too much stress and the game ends prematurely. The investigators then head out to the local pub to drown their sorrows in booze I imagine.
